VISITOR PRACTICAL VISA GUIDE

Thailand Visa Exemption 2026: 30-Day Rule from 15 September

What changes on 15 September 2026, who remains under the general 30-day list or a separate bilateral arrangement, and what travellers should verify before departure.

Does the 30-day change affect arrivals before 15 September 2026?

The current 60-day general visa-exemption scheme continues for arrivals through 14 September 2026. From 15 September 2026, the replacement general scheme gives eligible ordinary-passport holders up to 30 days and uses a 60-country-and-territory list; separate bilateral arrangements may give a different period. Check passport type, nationality, purpose and the rule effective on the actual arrival date. If already in Thailand, check the admitted-until date in your own entry record and ask Immigration about any uncertainty; the announcement image alone does not establish a blanket rule for existing permissions.

Documents and practical preparation

Before travel, check nationality, passport type and validity, purpose, return or onward travel, accommodation, funds, travel frequency, arrival-card requirements and any health certificate triggered by itinerary. Save the current official confirmation used for the decision. Airlines may apply document checks at boarding, while Thai officers make the entry decision.

Limits and decisions to check

Cabinet approval, a ministry announcement, Royal Gazette publication, effective date and operational border practice are different stages. Search summaries and airline blogs can collapse them into one headline. Visa exemption is also not a right to work or a guarantee of the maximum stay, and repeated use can prompt examination of true purpose.

TVC's practical assessment

The publication and effective date are now confirmed, so the useful answer is a dated transition rule rather than a warning about a proposal. We keep the general list separate from bilateral arrangements and from the entry officer's case-specific decision.

How community research informed this guide

Our topic research included Reddit and Expat.com. The matched concern is answered in the relevant section above, using visa requirements or written service terms—not forum advice—as the factual basis. It is not a claim of popularity or consensus.

Quora research was attempted; no suitable verifiable discussion was located. The research used English-language material and does not establish demand in other language communities.
