The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) lasts 5 years, with multiple entries. Validity and stay are different things. Each entry gives you up to 180 days. Three categories: remote work ("workcation"), Thai activities, and family of DTV holders.
DTV requirements for 2026.
THB 500,000 in funds
Every applicant, family included. Proof depends on the embassy; some want 3 months of statements.
Passport and photo
Biodata page, plus a photo from the last six months.
Proof of nationality or permanent residence
Since 31 August 2026, you apply where you're a national or permanent resident. Accepted documents vary by embassy.
Criminal-record clearance
It must meet the embassy's rules on issuing country, age, translation and authentication.
Embassies can ask for more, or an interview. Always check the checklist of the embassy handling your application.
Three ways to qualify.
Workcation
Remote work for an employer or clients outside Thailand. Usually: a contract, employment certificate or portfolio.
Thai activities
Muay Thai, Thai cooking or medical treatment, confirmed by the provider. Some embassies ask for more, like Sports Authority of Thailand approval for Muay Thai.
Family members
Spouse, or child under 20, of a DTV holder. Bring their DTV and proof of the relationship. An unmarried partner usually can't apply as a family member; they need their own DTV or another visa.
How long you can stay.
Valid 5 years. Up to 180 days per entry. Extend once per entry, by up to 180 days, at the Immigration Bureau in Thailand.
What changed on 31 August 2026.
Since 31 August 2026, applications must be made where you're a national or permanent resident. You need proof of that status and a criminal-record clearance. Applications submitted in the e-Visa system before 31 August 2026 follow the old rules. This means you can no longer apply as a visitor at an embassy in a neighbouring country, such as Malaysia.

Most applications go through the Thai e-Visa system, to the embassy or consulate for the country where you're a national or permanent resident. Requirements and statement periods differ, so the same application can look different from one embassy to the next.
