The Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa runs 5 years, then 5 more if you still qualify. First the BOI endorses you. Then you get the visa.

Four ways to qualify.

Wealthy Global Citizen

USD 1 million in global or Thai assets, and USD 500,000 invested in Thailand before you apply.

Wealthy Pensioner (50+)

Passive income of USD 80,000 a year, or USD 40,000–80,000 plus a USD 250,000 investment in Thailand. Earned income doesn't count. retirement visa page →

Work-from-Thailand Professional

Average income of USD 80,000 a year over two years (USD 40,000–80,000 with a master's or higher). You work remotely for a listed company, or a private one 3+ years old with USD 50 million revenue over 3 years.

Highly-Skilled Professional

Average income of USD 80,000 a year over two years (USD 40,000–80,000 with a master's or higher in science or technology), in one of Thailand's targeted industries.

Health insurance, every category.

USD 50,000 of health insurance, or Thai social security, or a USD 100,000 deposit held 12 months.

Bring your family.

Spouse and children under 20. Up to 4 dependants per LTR holder.

A dependant can use a USD 25,000 deposit instead of insurance.

How to apply.

  1. Apply to the BOI for the qualification endorsement.
  2. With the endorsement letter, the visa must be issued within 60 days.
  3. The visa comes from a Thai embassy or consulate abroad, or Immigration at the One Stop Service Center (TIESC), Bangkok. Fee THB 50,000 in Thailand; fees abroad may differ.

Wealthy Global Citizens, Wealthy Pensioners, Highly-Skilled Professionals and their families may apply for a BOI digital work permit. It needs an employment certificate and costs THB 3,000 a year.

Work-from-Thailand Professionals work remotely for their overseas employer. No Thai work permit.
